First Time Fishing
We have a young friend who is a mad keen fisherman and the boys have been talking about giving it a go too. Today Atticus and I went with them for our first time fishing and I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to see Atticus really enjoy himself.
As a young man who loves video games I feel it’s important to counteract that with off-screen and outdoor activities, which can be a real challenge as Atticus struggles with sensory issues surrounding heat and bright light. He also struggles with bare feet, and getting mucky hands – all issues which can make outdoor activities challenging.
We were lucky enough to be near a family of fishing experts and they happily helped Atticus, and me. This was great as it enabled Atticus to have some conversations and interactions with people he didn’t know and practice his social skills.
Nearing the end of our time Atticus was lucky enough, and the only person, to catch a fish! He reeled it in and was so proud. He even held the slippery slimy dude before we threw it back in the water.
